Jacob Tierney – Director
Jacob Tierney has been working as a professional actor since the age of seven. He has co-starred and worked with such notable talents as Joan Allen, Gena Rowlands, Denis Leary, Bob Hoskins, Saul Rubinek, Dan Akroyd, Aidan Quinn, James Caan, John Cusak, Colm Meany, Stephen Rea, Sarah Polley, Catherine O’Hara, Joe Pantoliano, Ellen Burstyn, Amanda Plummer, Genevieve Bujold, Mary McDonnell, Sean Young, William Devane, M. Emmet Walsh and Jason London. Phew!
Today Jacob has clearly proven himselef to be one of Canada’s brightest and most exciting directors. He began his directorial career with his feature debut TWIST, a modern take on Charles Dickens’ OLIVER TWIST and premiered at the Venice Film Festival. TWIST received Genie nominations for Jacob’s screenplay, as well as for Best Actor and Supporting Actor, and won the Genie for Best Original Song.
His second feature, the festival hit THE TROTSKY, won the audience award at the Tokyo Film Festival after premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival to rave reviews. THE TROTSKY was released in Canada (Alliance Films) and the US (Tribeca Films).
His latest film, GOOD NEIGHBOURS (NOTRE DAME DE GRACE) is his third film, which premiered at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival to a resounding standing ovation and critical and popular acclaim. The film takes place in 1995, the year of the second referendum on the separation of Quebec. In the dead of winter, a serial killer is on the loose in the small Montreal neighborhood of Notre Dame de Grace. The tenants of an old apartment house must figure out who they can trust and who they can’t.
